World War One
During World War One, Totley was a township for administrative purposes within the Registration District of Ecclesall Bierlow which straddled the Yorkshire-Derbyshire border. It had no parish church and was split between two ecclesiastical parishes. The old village centre and Totley Bents were in the parish of Christ Church, Dore. Green Oak and Totley Rise were in the parish of St. John the Baptist, Abbeydale. Hence Totley soldiers appear on a number of memorials in our area.
