Ernest Jackson's Cinefilms of Totley, circa 1962

We are very grateful to Howard Jackson for allowing us to use these family cinefilms. They can be expanded to view at full screen size by starting the video and then clicking on the symbol in the bottom right corner.

Part 1

Mrs Annie Jackson gardening, Back Lane, Thompson's Farm and Dam Field, Totley Rise, Hillfoot Road/Baslow Road corner, Summer Lane, Chapel Fields, Barlow Hunt.

The shots are not necessarily arranged in date order. The conversion of Baslow Road to dual carriageway was undertaken between late 1962 and September 1963. Initially the central reservation was just grass, but later this was concreted and a barrier erected.

Part 2

Barlow Hunt, Abbeydale Works restoration (1963-66), Millhouses Park, Derbyshire reservoirs, Totley (Cross Scythes) Bowls Club.

Part 3

Totley (Cross Scythes) Bowls Club, Train crash, more bowls.

Class 37 locomotive D6963 was damaged in a collision on the Hope Valley line, approaching Dore & Totley station in the late afternoon on 21st June 1966. A goods train was standing on the up line at Dore West Junction signal box near the triangular junction with the Midland Main Line. A second goods train, a Cheadle to Barrow Hill working hauled by D6963, simply ran into the back of the stationary train due to driver error, derailing several wagons and blocking the down line as well.
