Totley War Memorial WW1 1914-18

In October 2011 Totley History Group published a small book about the ten men from Totley who gave their lives during the Great War.

The first chapter sets the scene by trying to give an idea of daily life in the village on the outbreak of war in August 1914.

A chapter is devoted to each of the soldiers with a family tree followed by as much information as could be discovered about the men and their families.  There is also information about their military careers and the actions in which they lost their lives.

It has, of course, been possible to discover a great deal more about some of the men than about others.  In some cases we were fortunate in tracing descendents of the families who generously allowed us to borrow and copy precious family photographs and documents.  For each soldier we have given details of the place of burial or the memorial on which their names are inscribed.

The book has 64 pages and is illustrated profusely throughout with photographs of the men, their families and the houses where they lived.   It is available in local shops or by contacting Totley History Group via our e-mail address at contactus@totleyhistorygroup.org.uk
