A Geographical Study of Dore and Totley
by Stuart Greenhoff, 1957
We are very grateful to Stuart Greenhoff for allowing us to reproduce his 1957 student thesis in full.
It covers many aspects of the geography of Dore and Totley: geomorphology, climatology, historical geography, urban geography, economic geography etc. and has excellent hand-drawn illustrations and the most wonderful photographs which we have also built into a web album.
The sections on mining and industry (in Part 2) are particularly interesting and include a detailed account of the Totley Brickworks. Luckily for us, Stuart strayed slightly outside our area to include what is now Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet.
