These photographs accompanied an interesting enquiry from Mark Doyle.

Hi, I was wondering if you have any information regarding a Mr T O Bowley of Rose Cottage Totley. I am a rifle shooter and I collect all sorts of shooting related stuff. Some time ago, I bought a copy of Sharp Shooting for Sport and War by W W Greener (R A Everett & Co. 1900) and it is signed by T O Bowley (see attached images). I looked on the 1911 census and found Thomas Osborne Bowley b. 1893 at Rose Cottage.

I speculate that he acquired this book pre WW1 and possibly he was a volunteer, he would have been an ideal candidate aged 21 in 1914. I did not see his name on the War Memorial, so hopefully he survived WW1. I would like to know anything at all that may shed light on his life.

Best regards

Mark Doyle
