We are grateful to Marlene Marshall for these photographs of the Old Infant School House taken in June 2009, before the restoration work took place. In 1827, the school was built at the expense of D'Ewes Coke Esq., of Totley Hall, on his own land and included living accommodation for the teacher. A sum of £125, raised towards building the school, was expended in the purchase of land at Coal Aston. This was let for £6 per annum which was given to the schoolteacher for the instruction of six poor children. When a new larger school was built on Hillfoot Road in 1876, the old school house continued to be used as a home for the schoolmistress.
